Year 4 Moving Vehicles

Year 4 were challenged to make a moving vehicle. They were told their vehicle was to be made from wood and that it would be able to move by itself. Before children were let loose with materials, they had to design their vehicle as a group and draw a detailed and annotated drawing including relevant materials and measurements. They then were shown how to measure the wood and use the saws safely. Thankfully, all children listened well and were carefully supervised so each member of year 4 ended up with the same number of fingers as when they started!

The groups were advised to measure carefully and cut everything they needed all at once. This meant that each group ended up with their own plastic pocket containing all of the materials cut to the size they needed in order to build the frame for their vehicle.

Then, the groups proceeded to carefully and patiently piece and glue their wooden frames together, adding cardboard corners for extra support.

Year 4 have shown excellent teamwork skills so far. We are excited to fix on electrical circuits with a motor to our frames next. Keep an eye out for more updates!
