The Enormous Turnip

This week our story has been 'The Enormous Turnip' and the children have really enjoyed and engaged with the story. One of the activities was using the scales to see which vegetables were the heaviest and lightest. The children started to understand if the scales went down it meant they were heavy. Many of the children were very curious by the scales and spent a lot of time exploring them with different vegetables.

We talked lots about the characters having to pull the turnip out but at first it wouldn't budge until he managed to get lots of help from his friends. We looked at what this language meant and then explored lots of different objects deciding whether we had to push or pull them to get them to work. We also set up a picnic with the characters and the children were given instructions to share the food and objects out. This was to see if the children could follow simple and 2-part instructions. The children enjoyed having a 'picnic' and were good at listening and following instructions.

Our little rays of sunshine this week are Oliver Fullarton for showing enthusiasm for learning in all of our activities this week. He was especially interested in experimenting with the balance scales telling Mrs Blackett which vegetables were heavy and light. He also enjoyed trying to get the scales to balance by adding and taking vegetables out of the containers. Caiden Newton for giving everything a go. He especially worked hard in the Maths corner during free play to create his own pattern which he was very proud of. Olly McHugh for arriving at Nursery every day in his first week happy, confident and raring to go. Luna Hall for super listening and following instructions to help set the picnic up for our characters in the story. Finally, Grace Greensmith for becoming more independent in Nursery and trying really hard with the forces activity predicting if they needed to be pushed or pulled for them to work. Great job everyone, what superstars!
