This week we have moved on to a new traditional tale...but with a twist! The children have loved our new story; The Three Horrid Little Pigs and the Big Friendly Wolf. We compared the similarities and differences between the original version, used our new puppet show to re-tell the story, built a house for the Three Little Pigs and learnt some new vocabulary (huge, tiny, horrid, naughty, friendly and help) I wonder if your child can tell you what these words mean? The most exciting part of the week was when we became scientists. Concept Cat taught us some new concepts; heavy and light. To help us learn more about these concepts we had to plan an experiment. We made predictions about a variety of different objects and then with some help from the big bad wolf, we tested the objects and sorted them into piles. We learnt that the heavy objects could not be blown away by the wolf but the light things could be blown away.

This week in Phonics we have not learnt any new phonemes or tricky words, but have focused on re-capping what has been taught so far. We have played lots of fun games to help us recognise and read our tricky words and have done lots of keep up interventions to help us remember some of those tricky phonemes that we sometimes forget. Concept Cat also taught us some new concepts in our Maths lessons. We learnt what equal and unequal mean and had lots of fun sharing our sweets. I wonder if the children can put these concepts into practice at home?

This week we have begun our guided reading sessions. The book that we have read throughout the week will be assigned to your child online on the Little Wandle Big Cat website. Alongside this the children will have access to a story to read for pleasure with an adult. We hope you agree that our Reception Library looks amazing and we think the children will really enjoy choosing their own books to borrow every Friday!
