We started this week with a moving up morning. The children who are going into our reception classes went over to the primary school and had a taster session of what it is like to be in reception. They had the opportunity to meet their new teachers as well as explore the environment and new resources. The remaining children in nursery had the opportunity to meet their new teacher Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Symington who will also be working in nursery next year. All children appeared to enjoy their morning and are looking forward to their new classes.
We have also been continuing our all about me booklet and this week our focus was on our favourite friends in nursery. The children drew some amazing, detailed pictures of their friends and it was lovely to hear them talk so fondly of their nursery friends.
We have also learnt another phoneme this week. It was 'n'. The children have enjoyed learning these phonemes and we hope this has given them a good start for when they begin their phonics learning in reception. We have also continued deepening our knowledge on numbers 1-3 and this week we have been focusing on subitising. This means we can just say the number of objects there are rather than counting them and also we have been looking for patterns within numbers.
We have also been doing lots of singing rhymes, action songs and doing movement to music using the pom poms.
Our little rays of sunshine this week are Bertie Cavagin as he looked at the three buttons and noticed he could see “two and one”. Mason Freeman as he was a superstar at subitising the cubes. He instantly could tell me “2 and 2 is 4”. Nora Johnson for doing a wonderful picture of her and her favourite friends. She drew them all holding hands and said “Lenny and Stefan are my favourite friends because I love them”. She then wanted to draw them in a Newcastle t-shirt and drew a 'N' for Newcastle on their tops. Elijah McGee as he did an amazing job of colour mixing. He carefully put the colours on his fingers before mixing them together the placing the new colour on his sun sheet. Nova Richards as she was a superstar at our subitising activities this week. Nova was instantly able to tell me how many cubes she saw on the lycra “4 because there is 2 and 2”. Later in the session Nova was using the stampers, she arranged them on the table and told me “There's six”. When I asked how she knew that she told me “because it looks like it”. Finally, Hayden Clough as he really impressed this week when practising our graduation songs. He has tried really hard to learn all the actions and words and is doing a great job at singing them. He also really impressed me with his maths work being able to identify the numeral 1 and subitising 2 saying “I knew it was two as it's one and one”. Well done to you all, what superstars!
Just a reminder Monday is our stay and play sports and stall morning. Al children are invited to attend the morning session at 8.50am to be involved in this and parents to come at 10am. We are hoping that the weather is nice enough for everything to be outside but I will make the decision on Monday morning. We look forward to seeing you all there for what will be your last stay and play for some parents.
